Here’s a little Cold Call interview with Eric Koston taken from the March issue of The Skateboard Mag. Word by Chris Nieratko.
Is it true you bought all your old èS footage so no one would ever see it?
Yes, for a large, undisclosed amount of money but not so that it would never be seen. We used some of it in Fully Flared. We’ll probably just let the rest of it rot. Maybe someday we’ll stick it somewhere.
How do you fee about your little bitch-princess Kobe Bryant this year?
God. Whatever. I’m numb. Just play and shut up. I’m definitely over him The Shaq thing started rubbing me the wrong way, then he started raping chicks. He’s a total kook but a great basketball player.
When the Lakers are losing, do you sometimes get happy when someone from the other team gets really hurt really bad?
No, that’s messed up. Bad karma. If the dude is likeable, then it sucks. If it was Reggie Miller at his all-time I-would-kick-his-ass-if-I-saw-him-on-the-street prime, then maybe. I would be stoked a little bit if he rolled his ankle. But it’s still bad karma.
Do you feel the same way at skate contests?
Not at all. I don’t take contests as serious as I do watching a basketball game.
What if some dude with their name tattooed on their back repeatedly snaked you at the X Games?
What do you mean, “if”? He has. He’s done it plenty of times; I don’t care. He can keep going all he wants. I’m in no rush.
Where does Eric Koston put his boogers when he picks his nose?
Behind friends’ couches or under their couch cushions. Actually they end up down the drain in the shower. I always blow my nose in the shower; it’s an Asian thing. Usually a good morning shower with hot water and steam will keep you clear for the rest of the day. Unless I find one in traffic. I’m a flicker. I’ll flick it out the window. I’m not going to leave it in the car.
